The Malaysia-Labuan International Business and Financial Centre Business Seminar in Shenzhen was successfully held at the Beijing JingSh Law Firm Shenzhen Office on April 2, 2024. Gan & Zul Law Firm's founder and senior lawyer from Malaysia, Mr. Gan Ping Sieu, together with Mr. Ryan Wu, the executive director of ZTJX Trust Ltd, and Serene Liaw, the deputy director of the strategic planning and public relations of Labuan International Business and Financial Centre (Labuan IBFC) China Desk visited Beijing Jingsh Law Firm Shenzhen office to participate in this seminar and exchange their insights. Mr. Gan Ping Sieu, the founder of Gan & Zul Law Firm and a senior lawyer from Malaysia, introduced the visiting delegation and emphasized the importance of tax compliance from a lawyer's perspective. He mentioned that, as this year marks the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia and the 11th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, he hoped that this exchange could further strengthen mutual cooperation in finance, law, and business between financial centres and law firms, then, achieving achieving normalized cooperation.
Mr. Chen Xiu, the co-founder and executive director of Beijing JingSh Law Firm Shenzhen Office, expressed in his speech that Beijing JingSh Law Firm Shenzhen Office will always maintain an open attitude and provide comprehensive legal services with the international practice orientation. At the same time, the firm should provide its services based on customers' needs and bridge the gap in serving corporate clients' need of overseas expansion. He hoped that this seminar could further strengthen the communication between Labuan International Business and Financial Centre and enterprises, promoting cross-border trade and the development of the exchange between China and Malaysia legal industry.
Ms. Serene Liaw, the deputy director of the strategic planning and public relations of Labuan IBFC China Desk, introduced details about the Labuan and the relevant institutions of the Labuan IBFC China Desk, including the main industries under the Labuan jurisdiction, the eligibility for the Labuan's tax framework, Labuan's fiscal system, and its preferential policies.
Mr. Ryan Wu, the executive director of ZTJX Trust Ltd, introduced the Labuan IBFC's financial solutions, the characteristics of Labuan companies, the application scenarios, services packages and support for Labuan Companies, and reasons for choosing to settle down at Labuan IBFC from two aspects: financial centre business - companies and financial centre business - finance. Additionally, based on his own work experience, he discussed with the participants regarding the history of compliance operations and non-compliance operations and issues such as carbon resource development. He stated that the financial development in Labuan requires a good legal environment of investment and financing and the professional legal guidance, to assist domestic companies in overseas expansion and jointly promote the development of financial business and corporate compliance in China and Malaysia.
Finally, participants continued to discuss issues regarding work visas in Labuan, individual shareholders, corporate listings, and the industrial qualification requirements for enterprises and the practical legal issues of the overseas expansion of enterprises' development in Labuan.
